What a Week???

Oh my goodness, can I just ask, "Is it Friday yet?"  This week has been a tough one with the children going every different direction!  Monday morning started off with a bang.  It was raining pretty good so I took all the stuff we had for school - and if you will indulge me, let me just recount what exactly I had - 12 ears of corn for "Farm Days", 2 backpacks, 2 milk cups, a bagel, 2 folders to be returned to school, my computer bag, my wallet, and my keys ... the keys are the critical item to the morning.  I put everything in the front seat of the Tahoe as I usually do, but I still had the keys in my hand.  I turned to toss the keys in the front seat, too, and I guess somehow that I hit the LOCK button ... and because it was raining, I slammed the door (which I never do).  I walked back into the garage to get Bonner; picked her up and ran her to her side where, much to my surprise, her door was locked.  I tried the driver's side door - oh no - and then the passenger door - really, oh no ... yes, I had, in fact locked the keys in the car!  I put Bonner down back in the garage and went on a wild-goose chase to find my spare set of keys!  No luck!  So, the children played in the garage and the rain while we waited an hour for the pop-a-lock man to show up... Here are some pictures of them thoroughly enjoying the situation!

Well, I took them to school an hour late, but the day wasn't lost!  I guess the silver lining is that I hadn't put the children in the car before I locked it up...

As I mentioned, we took corn to school on Monday for their class to use this week during their "Farm Days".  They have played in pumpkin guts, shucked corn, painted with a corncob, and plenty of other fun stuff (my motto is "better school to give them those experiences than this tired old mommy") ... but today, they wore their overalls - well, Ian wore overalls and Bonner, her overall dress!  They were super cute this morning on their way to school!  My sweet neighbor brought these little pumpkins over last week and they just love them!

I think that they have had a great time at school this week and it's been fun listening to them tell me all about it.  School is out on Friday and we are scheduled for our first parent/teacher conference.  I think it will be enlightening, to say the least.  As most of you, Ian and Bonner are extremely verbal children.  They both say their ABCs and count to 20.  They can tell you they are happy, sad, angry; they can tell you exactly what they want to eat; they can tell you exactly which book they want to read, puzzle they want to do, TV show they want to watch.  It's amazing just how much they talk.  But over the past few weeks, Bonner has become pretty aggressive!  I don't want her to be a wimp, that's for sure, but she's taking it to the next level pretty quickly.  I say all of this because I struggle how to handle her without being too harsh, but harsh enough for a 2-year-old.  I look forward to talking with her teacher about it because I would fair to venture that she's not the first little girl to come through Mrs. McCauley's class with this same 'tude.  I know it's a phase, but I would like to get out of the phase sooner, rather than later, and unharmed ... literally :-)
