I certainly get myself into the craziest situations and last Friday was no different. I got a call from UGA when we were at the beach back in September and I must say that I had to look around for the candid camera cameras. The nice lady from UGA asked me what I was doing on Friday, October 22, and I told her, in complete honesty, "Well, I hope I'm winning alot of money at Kingland outside Lexington, KY, since that's the weekend of the UGA/Kentucky game." She laughed and said, "Well, I have a request of you if you would consider it." Of course ... so she explained to me that Furman University, located here in Greenville, SC, would be inaugurating their new President on Friday, October 22, and that the University needed a representative to attend since UGA's President would not be able to make it (oh, yeh, he's the one that will be winning alot of money at Kingland)! Well, I must say I couldn't even begin to understand what she was talking about so I told her I would think about it and call her back.
As I hung up the phone, Stewart asked, "What was that all about?" I explained to him the request and he immediately said, "You have got to do it!" This is a great opportunity and we can still make it to the game in Kentucky. Well, fast forward about 6 weeks, and here's me in my cap and gown. I proceeded into the affair with another "nobodies" from Universities all over the nation. It was very entertaining and, actually, alot of fun! The new President of Furman, Rod Smolla, seems to be a terrific leader and will be a great asset for his new school, I'm sure. In the meantime, here's the only picture I had taken ... I hope Matt & Krista don't mind making their way to my blog. Matt is a graduate of Furman and his family are big supporters. It was great to have them their to support the nonsense! All in all, though, it was a great opportunity!
We had a very busy weekend, but no pictures to show for it. We enjoyed a beautiful night out at the zoo on Friday night - the kids wore their costumes and went to "Boo in the Zoo"! It was cute, but Bonner wanted no part of the whole experience!
Saturday, we went back to Furman since it was their homecoming and the children enjoyed hanging out with our friends before the game. It was something to get us out of the house and continue enjoying the magnificent weather.
Saturday night, we broke in the new addition by having several people over to watch the UGA/KY game. Thank goodness we won another one! Next week against Florida will be interesting! I hope we extend our win streak to 4 and get over the 500 mark for the season.
Today, the children went to my mom's church to take part in a 5K walk for Cancer Survivors. Mom pulled them 3.1 miles in the wagon - man, I bet she will be sore tomorrow. And, then tonight, we met some friends out for dinner to celebrate our good friend, Elizabeth's, birthday.
Busy weekend, but so much fun! I hope you have a terrific week; I'm hoping we get a little bit of rain this week, but we'll see. And, of course, we'll have lots of Halloween events this week to enjoy so more pictures with the next post!
Love,
Jennifer
