It's been a crazy few days. We left last Friday for God's country, also known as Athens, GA, to see some of our friends and hang out with their 3 children. Everyone did good - I did realize that 5 children might be a little much for us to handle :-) Neither child slept good at all while we were there that night so mommy and daddy were pretty worn out.
Ian came down with a fever Sunday night and this posed a slight issue since he was scheduled for his circumcision and bronchoscopy tomorrow. Normally, I just let my children fight off the cold themselves, but with the upcoming surgery, the ENT recommended that we go ahead and see the pediatrician in case he needed an antibiotic ... well, we went to the doctor (and by this time, Bonner had a slight fever, too) and we were told, yet again, Ian has the croop. I mean, he is the croopiest child I've ever seen. Bonner probably has the same thing, but there's really nothing they can give for the croop other than steroids to open up the airway passages. Well, we were fever-free for a couple of days and then, BAM, a little birdie must have talked to Ian during his nap today because he woke up with a fever and it hit 102 about an hour later. So, needless to say, no surgery tomorrow. Not sure when we can get it rescheduled for - trying to get both doctors in the OR at the same time is a little bit of a nightmare, but, hopefully, since God postponed it, He'll help us to get it scheduled sooner rather than later.
I must say, though, that I was about exhausted this afternoon - hanging out with 2 snotty-nosed, coughing, whiny children for the past 3 days had just about done me in ... so I called my mom and asked if Bonner could still go over there for the night (we were supposed to be at the hospital at 6 a.m. so there was no need to wake "the Princess" so she was going over for a slumber party). Mom came and got her and we had a nice, relaxing evening with one snotty-nosed, coughing, whiny child :-)
We are doing the snow dance around here again in hopes that the predicted snow for the NC mountains will make its way south this weekend.
Lastly, on a much more serious note, we were saddened this week with the passing of Josiah Wilson. I know I have mentioned him on several occasions as he was born at MUSC back in May and has spent every day but 1 since then in the PCICU. His family is from Greenville so we have gotten to know them through their blog and Facebook. We have prayed for Josiah through several surgeries and heart caths; but, this past weekend, his little heart just couldn't take anymore and he earned his wings. You can read about his family's faith at www.thewilsonheart.com. I know that they would appreciate your prayers for comfort during this difficult time; a celebration of his life is planned for tomorrow night so I'm sure the next 24 hours will be very difficult for them!
As we come up on the 1-year anniversary of Ian's heart repair, I have become very introspective on what we faced, what we went through, and where we are today. If I get the time, I'll share some of those thoughts with you in my next post!
Love to each of you!
Jennifer
