It's Been Too Long...

Yet again, I have let too many weeks pass since my last update.  Well, it just so happens that this week, I have alot of time on my hands because I am in the bed sick with the flu.  I have caught up on magazines from 2011, watched more TV since Monday than I did all of last year, and slept alot!  I am feeling better and hope to be on the mend.  But I thought now seems like a great time 1) to get our blog entries from 2011 into a book so that's finished and 2) to finally update the blog.

In February, a few of my girlfriends and I headed to the Big Apple.  I have been there before so I was able to just do some shopping, some buying, and alot of eating!  We did do some fun things but I have no pictures to share but these 2 that I took from the top of the Empire State Building.  We stayed right across the street from the NYC Library; we went to Chelsea Market which was really cool; visited a "Taste of Eataly" which was packed; and we enjoyed some yummy food throughout the city!  I was reading Dorothea Benton Frank's latest book, Folly Beach, and it was all about the play "Porgy & Bess".  The play was actually on Broadway and I wish I had planned better so that I could have gone to see it; so I will definitely try to get back up there soon to see it :-)

I guess, though, that's enough about me :)  Ian and Bonner are doing great! Their class at school had a Parent's Pancake breakfast at the end of February.  They did the "Many Little Pigs" play for us and it was so cute.  Bonner & Ian both opted to be little piggies and they have been doing the play at home ever since.  I would love to get the videotape posted but I have a CD stuck in my laptop and haven't had a chance to get to the Apple store to get it fixed ... hopefully, soon :-)

My little chipmunk hoarding pancakes in her cheeks :-)

I absolutely LOVE this picture of Bonner giving Ian a hug!  The look on his face is priceless and her little smile is just precious!

They continue to enjoy their swimming lessons; a couple of weeks ago, they learned about boat safety and what better way to do that besides putting on a life jacket and getting in a boat!  What a great idea - they loved it!

Ian took the Short Sports class at the YMCA - it was a great way to introduce him to various sports.  He learned about basketball, teeball, track and field, and football.  The last day, they had an obstacle course.  (I'll try to get that video posted, too!) I really don't think he was enamored with one sport over another ... as you can see from the pictures!

On track & field day, he was more interested in wearing the cone than running sprints :-/

On football day, he enjoyed throwing the football ...
 and picking the hay :-)

But he was very excited to get a certificate with his "coach"!  We might need to repeat the class next year :-)  However, the other day we went to the store and he insisted on getting a soccer ball.  Maybe there is hope for him picking flowers and chasing butterflies on some field in the future!

We have had a few days off from school recently so last week, Bonner and I decided to make our own playdough ... she was a great helper!  I cannot believe I didn't take a picture of the finished product but we made pink, yellow, purple, green & blue.  And we added glitter to each one to give them some sparkle.  She was so excited to help in the kitchen!

And last weekend, the Character Breakfast that we did last year was held again.  This year, it was just for me & Bonner - Ian decided he didn't want to go so he stayed home with Gigi and Grandbuddy :-)  Bonner loved seeing all the princesses yet again - she was scared to take a picture with Cinderella and Prince Charming and she was scared of the teapot and Luminere that accompanied Belle.  But we still enjoyed our other favorites :-)  Poor little Bonner had a runny nose so her little upper lip was so chapped ... And, of course, Abby had to meet all the princesses "one more time, mommy!"

Bonner with Sleeping Beauty (2012)

And I thought this was great to see how much she has grown (and, last year, I didn't even think to let her wear one of her princess dresses).  This is her with Ariel ...
 last year (2011) and

this year (2012).

And, last but not least, they make me laugh everyday!  The things they say are terrific but I am mesmerized by their logic.  Here are some things they have said recently that I just want to make sure I capture!
Bonner-Lingo
- "Ian, you are hilarious!"
- She was pretending to be Ariel and Ian was Andy one day when she came up to me and said, "Andy's mommy, look at my tail!  My dad gave it back to me!"
- "Ian, are you ticklish!"
- After taking a bite of chicken at Chick-fil-a one day, she smacked her lips and said, "Chicken-tastic!"
- She got a sucker from the bank and it had the letter R on it.  I said, "Bonner, you have an 'R' in your name, don't you?"  She said, "Yes" and then slowly said, "R-E-N-N-O-B - that's my name backwards!"  I was really impressed because she was doing it totally from memory and not looking at her name written down right then.

Ian-isms
- I said to Ian, "If you say "stinky" one more time out of context, I am going to wash your mouth out with soap." He asked me, "Can you put ice cream with it?"
- "Mommy, you have a big fanny.  I love big fannies!"
- The week of the letter "S" at school, Ian was trying to figure out what to take for show and tell.  He said, "I can take my SSSSS-pit, mommy!"
- Maybe the Short Sports did have some impact on Ian because last week, he said, "When I grow up, mommy, I want to be a football player!"
- One day, Ian put all of his shoes in Bonner's little grocery cart - he even went into the closet to get some more.  I kept hearing Ian tell Bonner all about his "shoe plough"... it went on all night.  The next day, I inadvertently asked them, "Where are your shoes?"  Ian quickly said, "They are in the shoe plough!" He definitely is creative!

Their Conversations
- Bonner was talking about biting one day and said, "You can't bite your friends but you can bite yourself." Ian responded, "If you use your lips, it won't hurt!"
- I asked them after our beach trip, "What was your favorite part of our trip to the beach?" Bonner replied, "Looking for seashells!"  Ian said, "Riding on the elevator!"
- Ian insisted on drawing a picture for Bonner one day.  She was laying in her bed reading a book and he walked in with the picture.  He handed it to her and said, "Look, Bonner, I drew you a Wuven Sluven." She quickly replied, "Oh, I just love a Wuven Sluven!"  (I guess we read more Dr. Seuss than I realized)
- Bonner said, "Mommy, I went tee-tee all by myself.  Did you hear me flush?"  "I did, Bonner!"  She then asked, "Did you hear me wipe?"  Well before I could even reply, Ian walked out of the other bathroom and said, "I usually never flush!"
